Oxidized Regenerated Cellulose (ORC)

The ORC product is an absorbable, warp-knitted fabric composed of oxidized regenerated cellulose. It is designed for use in surgical applications where hemostasis is required. The ORC material is white with a pale-yellow tint. Slight discoloration may occur with age, but this does not affect the product’s performance.

Intended Use: The Oxidized Regenerated Cellulose product is used as a hemostatic agent to control bleeding during surgical procedures. It is designed to assist in achieving hemostasis when conventional methods are ineffective or impractical. It is particularly useful in neurosurgery, cardiovascular surgery, and general surgical procedures.

  1. Bio-absorbable & biocompatible — it’s plant-derived, causes little tissue reaction, and is naturally absorbed in ~7–14 d
  2. Rapidly promotes haemostasis — on contact with blood it swells into a gel-like mass that helps clot formation, usually stopping bleeding within minutes.
  3. Physically conformable and easy to handle — can be cut, shaped, or placed on irregular tissue, and doesn’t fray or stick to instruments.
  4. Low pH → antimicrobial & hemostatic environment — its acidity helps limit bacterial growth and aids clot formation (via vasoconstriction / protein denaturation).
  5. Useful in many surgical scenarios — widely used across different types of surgery; effective for capillary/venous bleeding, bone surface bleeding, and areas where sutures/electrocautery are impractical.
  • Material: Oxidized Regenerated Cellulose (ORC)
  • Sterilization: The oxidized regenerated cellulose is sterilized by gamma radiation to ensure product sterility and patient safety.
  • Shelf Life: The shelf life of the sterilized oxidized regenerated cellulose is 3 years from the date of manufacture, provided the packaging is intact and properly stored
  • Packaging: It is individually packed in aluminium foil and then placed in a secondary carton to ensure protection during storage and transportation.
