Oxidized Regenerated Cellulose (ORC)
The ORC product is an absorbable, warp-knitted fabric composed of oxidized regenerated cellulose. It is designed for use in surgical applications where hemostasis is required. The ORC material is white with a pale-yellow tint. Slight discoloration may occur with age, but this does not affect the product’s performance.
- Bio-absorbable & biocompatible — it’s plant-derived, causes little tissue reaction, and is naturally absorbed in ~7–14 d
- Rapidly promotes haemostasis — on contact with blood it swells into a gel-like mass that helps clot formation, usually stopping bleeding within minutes.
- Physically conformable and easy to handle — can be cut, shaped, or placed on irregular tissue, and doesn’t fray or stick to instruments.
- Low pH → antimicrobial & hemostatic environment — its acidity helps limit bacterial growth and aids clot formation (via vasoconstriction / protein denaturation).
- Useful in many surgical scenarios — widely used across different types of surgery; effective for capillary/venous bleeding, bone surface bleeding, and areas where sutures/electrocautery are impractical.
- Material: Oxidized Regenerated Cellulose (ORC)
- Sterilization: The oxidized regenerated cellulose is sterilized by gamma radiation to ensure product sterility and patient safety.
- Shelf Life: The shelf life of the sterilized oxidized regenerated cellulose is 3 years from the date of manufacture, provided the packaging is intact and properly stored
- Packaging: It is individually packed in aluminium foil and then placed in a secondary carton to ensure protection during storage and transportation.
